TapouT XT Day Six - Sprawl & Brawl
Today we finished out the TapouT XT workout week with Sprawl & Brawl. This program is aggressive and really attacks your body. Each day a different zone gets sore and then is worked a little extra the next day. It feels like a lot of thought was put into each exercise in each workout. The routines are extremely diverse so it is easy to get lost, at least for someone like me who has an inability to follow mirrored movements. On complex moves Mike will turn sideways for demonstrations but I had Mandi pause the DVD a couple times to make sure I was doing the moves correctly. That's a lesson we'll take forward so I can get the gist of what I'm supposed to be doing. I've read a couple of complaints about how some moves are hard to follow but the power of pause and rewind are immeasurable. Those complex moves are the real money makers, along with each day's killer move - so rightly named.
The main thing I've learned from this week is to go at my own pace and modify the moves to keep going. I think it's easy to get discouraged when most of the people in the video can pound through it while I'm creating a vacuum in my house from all of the air I'm sucking in. It's at those moments Mike dishes out encouragement such as "stick with me", " modify if you have to", "take a break but get back into it", "this is where the results are made", "I know you want to quit, keep going", and my favorite "this group has been doing TapouT for 90 days" a clear indication that we aren't supposed to be able to keep up yet.
The achievement of completing week one is invigorating. The first days always seems to be the hardest but muddling through it the best we can is what'll take us to the finish line. Walk before you run, hell, I'm happy to crawl, that seems to work more of my body anyway. I joked with Mandi over the last couple of years that if we ran around like children for an hour a day we'd be in great shape. TapouT XT isn't exactly that but it seems like what could be deduced from my hypothesis. At this time I wouldn't say it's for everyone but I do think anyone could benefit from it.
Shortly after finishing our workout we left for Pensacola. This weekend our close friends Thuvuy and Beau are getting married. Mandi is a bridesmaid so tonight we attended the rehearsal dinner. We didn't do bad diet wise considering what we could have eaten. Tomorrow will be the big test though.
