TapouT XT Day Thirty Nine - Yoga XT
Mandi is still recovering but she decided to get back into TapouT XT since it was a Yoga XT day. She had to skip several moves but at least she got to do a little bit. She helped me with some of my form, which was nice, and I'm elated to have her back. We'll see how she feels tomorrow and if today was a bad idea. She does think it may have increased the soreness of her lower back so she iced it just in case. I didn't do all that bad and really only struggled with the side planks, the one armed table tops and the one push-up hold near the end. Compared to what I could stick through when we started I'm doing great. The yoga days have really grown on me and I really look forward to them.
The big news is our Vitamix blender was delivered today. I had just enough time to unbox and clean it before Mandi got home. She really wanted to make a smoothie but I insisted on working out first, a smart move. Our reward for completing the Yoga XT routine was our very first homemade smoothie. It was, well, obviously a first time smoothie. We had to keep adding things to help overcome the amount of kale we started with but it turned out good. I didn't research enough so I'll need to spend some quality time with Google in the coming days. The blender did come with a recipe guide that contained some smoothie concoctions so we'll try some of those soon.
I have a bunch of plans for the blender, like making our own almond flour, so I'll be starting those in the near future. It will probably take a long time to offset the initial cost of the Vitamix but I already love it. It is a great machine that you just have to see in action. I also like the fact that running it half full of water with a couple drops of soap cleans it. We hope to replace our food processor with it too so we'll attempt to chop cabbage for coleslaw in the future, that should be fun.
A side effect of watching all of those food documentaries the last couple of days is a solidified commitment to solving our life-long diet dilemma. We are happy with the changes we have made, except for the cravings Mandi is having, so we still need to make some tweaks to dial it in. I have done a bit more research and found that whole foods is the basis of, what appears to be, all of the healthy diets. This is obvious to me since whole foods are naturally occurring and are unprocessed. We have definitely increased our fruit and vegetables so we figure the smoothies will add some more. We are also considering joining a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm to get locally grown organics. We are about two weeks late so we'll see if we can find one with an open slot.
