Keyport Slide 2.0

We were told about the Keyport Slide by a friend and fellow van traveler, Claude-Alain, at a Ujoint campout. We were having a casual discussion about the number of keys we had to carry for all of our various locks, which prompted the mention. I confused it with something else, fortunately Mandi wrote it down. Once we discovered how clever a device it was, we began working with American Eagle Locksmith in North Carolina to have a couple set up. On a subsequent visit, they cut all of our keys except for one, which they had to mail off to Keyport to have made. By the time the last key was ready we were already on the road so Keyport mailed them to our sister in San Diego.

Essentially, the Slide is a device that can hold up to 6 keys, 3 per side, or other items such as a mini flashlight or thumb drive, whatever combination the customer wants. We started with 6 keys but soon found we couldn't properly use the slide as an ignition key replacement due to the column shifter. That turned out to be a great thing as we can separate all other keys from the van key, only handing over the one when we need to have any work performed.

At roughly $60US each after adding keys, they seemed a bit pricey, but after 16 months of everyday use they have earned a spot as one of our best pieces of gear. We worried about the longevity, because they're made almost entirely of plastic, something that hasn't proved to be an issue as of yet. We use a locking s-clip to attach them to our van key ring. Lately, we carry the Slide in a different place than our van key, adding a perceived layer of additional security.

We don't receive any compensation (we bought ours at full price), the Slide is a product we have no problem recommending. We have been referred to Keyport by American Eagle Locksmith as a customer profile, which resulted in us sending them a couple free photos to use for social media marketing. It's a product that works as intended, we likey.

Funny to read your blog entry. Happy for you that it works well, mine does the job too.
